History

- Morley Amateur Swimming club was established in 1897.
The club is based in Leeds, part of West Yorkshire, England,
- For the early years of it's existence, it was run
mainly as a Water Polo Club with the members using Gilroyd Dam for training and
local races. Many mills in the area had sources of water which were also used by
the local inhabitants for swimming. On occasions races would also be held in the
lake at Roundhay Park.
- During this early period, the club was divided
into separate sections for men and women, as it was not deemed proper for ladies
and gentlemen to swim or bathe together.
